OUR POST WAS CO-NAMED BY ADDING CANADY WITH HOWARD BOARD (FIRST BEDFORD SERVICEMAN KILLED IN WWI) AFTER IT WAS RECHARTERED IN 1946. PFC CANADY WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON GUADACANAL IN 1942 AND AFTER 82 YEARS HIS REMAINS WERE RECENTLY IDENTIFIED AND ARE BEING RETURNED TO HIS FAMILY HERE IN BEDFORD ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18.
A MEMORIAL SEVICE IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 AT 1200 AT THE THARP FUNERAL HOME BEDFORD CHAPEL WITH REINTERNMENT FOLLOWING AT VIRGINIA MEMORIAL GARDENS. POST 54 AND COMPANY C, 4TH COMBAT ENGINEER BATTALION, 4TH MARINE DIVISION ARE CONDUCTING THE MEMORIAL SERVICE AND FINAL MILITARY HONORS.
